Webthingify turns an Android phone into a Mozilla IoT-compatible web thing, exposing selected device data and controls through a web-based interface. Its main integration target is the Mozilla IoT gateway, allowing supported phone capabilities to participate in that web-connected system.

While Webthingify is running, a foreground service keeps the exposed readings refreshed. Depending on the phone’s sensors and other hardware capabilities, it can provide temperature, humidity, air pressure, brightness, proximity, motion, and power details. It can also provide camera pictures, switch the flashlight on or off, and activate vibration. The exact set of functions depends on the sensors and capabilities built into the Android device.

The application suits people who want to use a phone as a sensor and control endpoint within a Mozilla IoT setup, particularly when the phone is the available source of those readings or actions. The phone remains the source of the data and controls, so its hardware determines what Webthingify can offer. Current version 1.1 updates the webthing library. Webthingify runs on Android 8.0 or newer, uses universal architecture, and is distributed under an open-source license.
