About
Scan a drive on supported Microsoft Windows releases with WinDirStat to see where storage is being used and locate files that may be suitable for cleanup. At startup, it analyzes the complete directory tree and arranges the results into an overview of folders and files. This lets users trace a large storage area from its parent folder down to the individual files occupying it.
The directory pane follows the familiar structure of Windows Explorer, but sorts files and subdirectories by size rather than by name or location. A treemap displays the same directory contents as a single visual map, making large blocks of data easy to spot. An extension list serves as a legend while supplying statistics for each file type. Comparing the directory tree, treemap, and extension statistics shows both which folders are largest and which formats contribute most to their size.
WinDirStat suits people managing crowded disks, investigating unexpected space usage, or deciding which folders to review during cleanup. The WinDirStat Team develops and publishes it as open-source software. Version 2.9.3 targets x64 architecture, while x86 and ARM64 installer packages and a portable ZIP archive are also available.
