About
Connect a mobile device to the Yggdrasil Network and reach services hosted inside it through Yggdrasil, the official Android implementation. It creates an end-to-end encrypted IPv6 network in which IPv6-capable applications can communicate securely with other Yggdrasil nodes. The network is lightweight, self-arranging, and supported across multiple platforms; it also works over IPv4 when the device lacks IPv6 Internet connectivity.
The connection is exposed as a VPN service, allowing applications to access services located within the Yggdrasil Network. This VPN carries Yggdrasil traffic only, while ordinary traffic continues to pass through the user’s Internet provider rather than through Yggdrasil. It suits people using mobile devices to reach private or network-local services and applications that can communicate over IPv6.
Traffic sent across the Yggdrasil Network is encrypted end-to-end and, assuming the cryptography is sound, cannot be read by intermediate nodes; only the intended recipient can decrypt it. Yggdrasil is not intended to provide anonymity. Direct Internet peers can see a device’s IP address and may infer its location or identity, multicast-discovered peers typically expose its MAC address, and other nodes may infer some of its peering relationships.
Yggdrasil remains an early-stage implementation, and its cryptography has not received an official external audit. It runs on Android 5.0 or later with arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, or x86 architecture. Version 0.1-021 updates the core library to 0.5.13 and adds peer validation on input; the software is open-source.
