ares runs games from several classic consoles on MacOS, preserving their original behavior through accurate, multi-system emulation. It is freeware and open source in the Games category, with builds for both Intel and Apple Silicon. Its supported systems include PC-Engine CD and TurboGrafx CD, SNES and Super Famicom, Master System and Mark III, Mega Drive and Genesis, and Neo Geo Pocket Color.

Systems labeled Experimental can be used, but they are not recommended for everyday play. Built with the hiro framework, ares adopts native application behavior across supported environments through WinAPI on Windows, Cocoa on MacOS, and GTK2 or GTK3 on POSIX systems.
