About
Run application logic and analyze device data directly on Linux edge devices, extending AWS cloud capabilities to the places where that data is produced. AWS IoT Greengrass gives developers an edge runtime and cloud service for building, deploying, and managing IoT applications across connected devices. This approach lets devices process data locally, react autonomously to nearby events, and reduce the need to send every raw reading to the cloud.
Devices can filter and aggregate their data, run predictions from machine-learning models, and communicate securely with other devices on the local network. Greengrass devices also connect securely to AWS IoT Core and can export IoT data to the AWS Cloud. Pre-built software modules called components connect edge devices with AWS services and third-party services. Applications can be packaged and run as Lambda functions, Docker containers, native operating-system processes, or custom runtimes.
The software suits developers and operators handling sensor streams, local automation, edge analytics, and deployments that must exchange information nearby before forwarding selected data to AWS. Amazon Web Services publishes this commercial system-tools software for Linux, and version 2.16.0 requires snapd and supports amd64, arm64, and armhf architectures. Organizations still using Greengrass Version 1 should plan migration because its support ends on October 1, 2026.
Requires Linux + snapd · Architecture: amd64, arm64, armhf
