Axolotl - A crossplatform signal client1.6.0

Axolotl brings Signal-compatible messaging to a Linux desktop or another supported environment, letting people register a phone and use an alternative client for their conversations. It supports direct and group messages, with conversations stored locally by the application. Photos, videos, audio files, and contact attachments can be sent in both types of conversation, while photos and audio can be previewed before use.

An encrypted message store protects conversations retained on the device. Axolotl can provision and synchronize a desktop client, helping users carry their messaging setup onto a desktop environment. Its interface combines a Vue.js application with an Electron or QML WebEngineView container, while the Go textsecure package connects the interface and messaging functions to a Signal-compatible implementation. This makes it suited to people who want Signal-compatible desktop messaging or an alternative device client for personal and group communication.

Some capabilities remain unfinished, including push notifications, many settings available in the Android application, and encrypted phone calls. Sending attachments through Snap is broken because of AppArmor restrictions, and reported bugs and user-interface quirks may affect everyday use. Version 1.6.0 requires Linux with snapd and targets x86_64 (amd64) systems. Axolotl is open-source software published by Aaron Kimmig.
