Beam places live battery readings in the Android status bar, so power conditions can be checked without opening a full settings screen. Its indicator can use W, A, Ah, V, Wh, °C, or % as the selected unit, while the notification body can stack several readings at once. Opening the app shows a themeable battery view with watts, amps, volts, watt-hours, temperature in degrees Celsius, charge percentage, charging status, plug type, charging start time, and an estimate of the time remaining until full.

On Android 12 and newer, Material You supplies dynamic colours; alternatively, a custom seed colour can be chosen from a 12-swatch palette. Light, Dark, System, and OLED-black themes are available, with optional hero backlight glow and haptic feedback. Power-scalar correction handles phones that report microamps rather than milliamps, and users can invert current readings or adjust the polling interval.

Beam suits people who want quick charging and battery checks during everyday device use, along with detailed readings when needed. Notification permission is required for the status-bar indicator, and Beam must be opened once to start its indicator service. It has no advertising, tracking, data collection, third-party sharing, or unnecessary permissions.

Version 2.0 introduces Material Expressive theming and landscape-mode support. The open-source Android app requires Android 9 or later and supports arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, and x86 architectures.
