BookStash lets readers add web fiction and books to a personal library, download them to an Android device, and read them offline. The device serves as the library database, keeping downloaded works and reading information locally for a private, offline-first experience.

The library separates fan fiction, web serials, and books, with grouping by fandom or series. Search and tag filters can include or exclude terms, while each shelf can maintain its own excluded tags. The reader provides adjustable fonts, remembers your position, and supports moving between chapters and works in a series. Discover tracks tags from supported sources and searches for matching works during synchronization, with completion-status filters and a What’s New view for newly fetched or saved items.

Publicly available works can be read from Archive of Our Own, Royal Road, and Scribble Hub, while book details can come from public catalogues. Following a series can retrieve all of its works, and library data can be backed up, exported, and moved by the reader. In version 0.8.29, chat, texting, and social-media work skins from AO3 render as styled blocks without changing the reader’s chosen prose font or spacing, and back navigation preserves screen positions more smoothly.

BookStash suits readers who curate long-term collections instead of relying on a general content feed, especially when they want access during travel or without connectivity. It runs on Android 5.1 or later with Universal architecture, and is distributed under the GPLv3 open-source license; it uses no accounts, subscriptions, or central server for the library, and includes no paywalled features, ads, or tracking. The project is still in early development, so some areas may have rough edges while they stabilize.
