chip-tool

chip-tool is an open-source Matter controller for Linux. It is developed as part of the Connected Home IP project and is intended for experimenting with Matter devices. The project is available at https://github.com/project-chip/connectedhomeip.

The Linux snap package provides a way to run Chip Tool on the platform. It is suited to users working with Matter devices and to development or testing activities involving the Connected Home IP project. Usage instructions and questions are handled through the chip-tool snap project at https://github.com/canonical/chip-tool-snap.

Stable snap releases are prepared for each versioned CHIP project release. They are first placed in the latest/candidate channel, where manual testing takes place, and successful revisions are then promoted to latest/stable. The release process typically concludes within four weeks and includes smoke testing across all supported architectures.

Weekly development builds use the latest changes from the CHIP project's master branch. GitHub workflows trigger these builds, which first enter latest/edge and may then move to latest/beta after automated smoke testing; development builds are not promoted to the stable channels.
