CypherLeaf

CypherLeaf is an open-source note-taking application for Android in the Reading & Writing category. It is intended for people who need to draft, organize, and maintain written information on the device. Its local-storage model supports working with notes without requiring the release build to request internet permission.

Notes can be arranged in folders and labeled with tags for easier organization. Important notes can be pinned, while deleted notes move to a trash area where they can be restored. Notes may include attachments, and reminders can send notifications for items that require attention. A home-screen widget provides access to recent and pinned notes, and the interface supports light and dark themes with an adjustable font size.

The app can be locked through Android’s biometric system or the device screen lock. Individual protected notes use AES-GCM encryption, with the encryption key kept in Android Keystore separately from the notes database. Notes can be exported as plain text, Markdown, or JSON, while encrypted backups use a passphrase with PBKDF2 and AES-GCM. Protected notes and encrypted backups do not leave the device in readable form.
