About
Translate typed or pasted text between languages with Dialect, a desktop and mobile translation application built around the GNOME experience. It runs on Linux and also fits into the broader free desktop ecosystem. The app is aimed at people who need quick translations while reading, writing, studying, or communicating across languages.
Dialect can use Google Translate, DeepL, Bing, Yandex, Lingva Translate, or the LibreTranslate API as its online translation source. LibreTranslate support lets you select any publicly available LibreTranslate instance rather than being tied to one service. Automatic language detection helps identify the source language before translation, while text-to-speech can read the result aloud.
Translation history provides a record of earlier exchanges, and dedicated clipboard buttons make it easier to move text into or out of other applications. These features suit GNOME users handling multilingual messages, documents, and web content without switching between separate browser services. Dialect began as a simple Google Translate client in 2020 and has expanded through community contributions and additional capabilities.
