Duress1.0.11

Enter a designated duress password at the Android lock screen and Duress triggers a predefined response while the device remains locked. It uses Android’s ACCESSIBILITY permission to detect that password without requiring the screen to be unlocked.

The response can be configured to send a broadcast message, or to initiate a device wipe as a separate alternative. The wipe action is optional and requires Android’s DEVICE_ADMIN permission, so the two actions can be handled independently. Duress does not operate when Android is running in safe mode.

This System Tools software is intended for Android users who need an emergency action tied to a password entered under duress, such as when a device must signal an event or erase its contents. It supports Android 6.0 and newer on Universal architecture. Testing has covered an Android 12 emulator, Google Pixel 4a and 5a phones running Android 12, and a Samsung Tab S8 running Android 12; compatibility with other devices or Android versions has not been established.

Version 1.0.11 includes Samsung-specific fixes, credited to digi-s. Duress is open-source software released under the GPL-3 license.
