About

Write an operating-system ISO image to a USB drive from an Android phone, creating bootable media for situations such as recovering a laptop that will not start. EtchDroid lets you choose a supported image and write it directly to a connected USB device without root access.

It works with USB flash drives and USB SD card adapters, but not USB hard drives or SSDs, docks or hubs, internal SD card slots, optical or floppy drives, or Thunderbolt-only devices. Supported images include modern GNU/Linux distributions such as Arch Linux, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, pop!_OS and Linux Mint, along with FreeBSD and BlissOS. Raspberry Pi SD card images are also supported after they have been unzipped, while official Microsoft Windows ISOs, Apple DMG files and GNU/Linux images older than 2010, including Damn Small Linux, are not.

Community-built Windows images specifically made for EtchDroid can be used with caution, and are distinct from official Windows ISOs. The app runs on Android 6.0 or later and supports arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64 and x86 devices; it is open-source software in the System Tools category.

Version 2.1 improves reliability by fixing several crashes during USB writing and a crash when opening images on some Android 13 devices. It also gives a clearer error when a very large USB drive cannot be written, correctly disables telemetry on microG-based ROMs, and adds Finnish, Galician, Burmese, Sardinian, Slovak and Ukrainian translations.

Requires Android 6.0+ · Architecture: arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, x86
