Fabularium

Fabularium is an open-source Android app for creating and playing interactive fiction on phones and tablets. Interactive fiction presents stories as text adventures, interactive books, or playable novels in which the reader takes part in the story. It is intended for adults who enjoy this form of reading and for children who can use it to encourage reading and develop their imaginations.

The app supports major formats including Adrift, including version 5, AdvSys, the Adventure Game Toolkit, Alan 2 and 3, Glulx, Hugo, Level 9, Magnetic Scrolls, Scott Adams Adventures through Scottfree, Tads 2 and 3, and Zcode used by Infocom. It also includes a simple integrated development environment for making Glulx, Tads 3, and Zcode games. Unicode support allows games to be played in languages other than English. Users can define their own keyboards in keyboards.ini or disable the built-in keyboard to use the system keyboard. Custom keyboard layouts can map keys to Unicode characters, complete commands, or multiple commands that are sent to the interpreter one by one.

Fabularium includes TalkBack support across much of the app, and its built-in keyboard supports explore by touch and lift to type. Its display settings allow users to adjust margins, fonts, colors, line spacing, and other typographical details. These controls help adapt the presentation of a game to the reader’s preferences and Android device screen.
