Fabularium lets readers play interactive fiction as text adventures, interactive books, and playable novels, while giving creators tools to make games in the same medium. Designed for Android phones and tablets, it brings both reading and authoring to a portable screen.

It handles major formats including Adrift, including version 5, AdvSys, Adventure Game Toolkit, Alan 2 and 3, Glulx, Hugo, Level 9, Magnetic Scrolls, Scott Adams Adventures through ScottFree, TADS 2 and 3, and the Z-code format used by Infocom. Its integrated development environment can create Glulx, TADS 3, and Z-code games, while Unicode support allows interactive fiction in languages besides English.

Users can define custom keyboards in keyboards.ini, turn off the built-in keyboard in favor of Android’s system keyboard, or map keys to Unicode characters, complete commands, or sequences of commands sent individually to the interpreter. TalkBack support covers much of the app, and the built-in keyboard offers explore-by-touch and lift-to-type interaction. Display controls adjust margins, fonts, colors, line spacing, and other typographical settings to suit different readers and device screens.

Adults who enjoy interactive fiction can use it for recreational reading and play, while children can use text-based stories to encourage reading and imagination. Version 1.5.1 runs on Android 4.1 or later, supports arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, and x86 architectures, and is released under an open-source license.
