About

Fotema organizes the photos stored locally on your devices into a gallery you can browse and enjoy in one place. It gives people a way to explore a personal photo library on the device itself instead of treating their pictures as scattered files. Browsing can be arranged by year or by month, making older images easier to revisit.

The gallery displays iOS Live Photos and Android motion photos from Samsung devices, preserving the moving-photo experience across those formats. It plots photographs on a map, automatically detects faces, and plays videos alongside still images. Fotema also handles many image formats, with support matching the formats accepted by Loupe, the GNOME image viewer.

It suits anyone who keeps a personal collection on local Linux devices, from everyday snapshots to libraries organized around places, dates, and people. The current 2.4.2 release uses the GNOME 50 runtime and includes updated translations. Fotema is open-source software for Linux and is intended for photo browsing, location-based discovery, motion-photo viewing, and video playback in a single gallery.
