vimix combines several movie clips with computer-generated graphics, allowing an operator to build changing visual compositions in real time. It mixes and blends these sources while applying image-processing effects during the performance. Direct controls for opacity and shape let the operator decide how each visual layer appears and interacts with the others.

The resulting image can supply live graphics for concerts and VJ-ing sessions, with the composition adjusted interactively as the material plays. Operators generally display the output full-screen on an external monitor or projector. vimix can also record the visual output or stream it live, but the output contains no audio.

Developed by Bruno Herbelin, vimix is an open-source Linux graphics-design application aimed at live visual performers and people creating real-time image compositions. It is suited to productions where movie footage and generated graphics must be combined as an evolving visual presentation rather than edited into a finished image sequence. Version 0.9.3 requires Linux with snapd and runs on x86_64 (amd64) systems.
