GNUnet Messenger

GNUnet Messenger is an open-source communication application for Linux. It uses the GNUnet Messenger service to support private and secure communication between groups of devices. The application is intended for people who need direct or group-based conversations with control over who can contact them.

Users can create direct chats and group chats, manage contacts and groups, invite contacts to groups, and rename contacts. Messages can contain text, voice recordings, or privately shared files, and messages can be deleted after a custom delay. The application also supports live video or voice streaming, screen sharing with a selected group, and writing notes to yourself. Contacts can exchange details physically, verify contact identities, and switch between different accounts.

Chats generally use an opt-in model, so users can decide who may contact them directly by accepting a direct chat. A chat can also be left at any time, and GNUnet Messenger is compatible with the messenger-cli terminal interface.
