ike-qt lets users create, organize, and activate IPsec VPN connections through a graphical connection manager. It packages the connection-management component of the Shrew Soft VPN Client, giving users a single place to define connection profiles and use them to reach remote networks. The client can communicate with open-source VPN servers such as ipsec-tools as well as with some commercial IPsec VPN servers.

The underlying Shrew Soft client supports FreeBSD, NetBSD, Linux, and Windows environments, with most features of its Windows counterpart available on supported systems except those that depend on non-cross-platform functionality. This makes ike-qt useful for people connecting workstations to mixed VPN infrastructures, including networks operated with open-source server software.
