K9Keyboard turns a physical number pad into predictive English text entry on Android 4.1 and later, giving feature-phone users a compact alternative to touchscreen typing. Its minimalist, Nokia-inspired T9 design is intended for basic Android phones with physical keypads.

It predicts English words, provides basic punctuation through the 1 key, and can recompose words that have already been entered. Four entry states cover lowercase, capitalized, all-caps, and numbers, with the pound key handling mode and case changes; holding zero inserts a newline, while holding any key enters its number. In letter entry, a short pound-key press changes case, while predictive entry supports single uppercase or all-caps shifts and long-press mode cycling.

Custom key-code mappings can be defined in a copy of k9t9.properties-example, such as assigning key code 4 to DELETE, then transferred with adb; the IME service must be restarted before those changes apply. The first launch may take time to load the word database and build its data structures, during which word-input modes do not work. Version 0.12.0 is an open-source System Tools release with Universal architecture.

K9Keyboard targets phones that may lack Google Play and Google services, including devices without an interface for selecting another IME after one is present.
