Laidout lets you compose pages for printed documents and arrange them into folding and binding patterns before production. It combines desktop publishing with experimental vector-graphics tools, treating imposition—the ordering and positioning of pages on sheets—as a central part of the workflow. This approach suits booklets, flyers, pamphlets, and other projects where the printed sheet must fold into a particular page sequence.

Its imposition features support tiled signatures and art-board arrangements containing multiple pages of different sizes. Basic net templates cover single-sheet folding patterns such as half folds, gate folds, accordion folds, and the Miura map fold, whose skewed quadrilateral pages help the sheet fold and unfold. The software also provides direct ellipse creation with optional wedge cutouts and rounded-rectangle drawing with on-canvas handles for adjusting corner curvature. Tiling can place multiple signatures on one sheet, while the earlier behavior duplicates signatures rather than stacking them.

Laidout is intended for designers, independent publishers, print makers, and anyone preparing physical publications who needs to inspect folding logic alongside page artwork. Oliver Grawert develops the project, which is particularly suited to experimental layouts and bookbinding-oriented planning.

The current 0.096.1-2 release runs on Linux with snapd on x86_64 (amd64) systems. Laidout is open-source software.
