Create and retouch artwork by painting on raster layers, arranging vector layers, and combining both kinds of content in one image. LazPaint reads and writes many formats, including layered LZP, ORA, PDN, oXo, and flat PSD files; multi-image GIF, ICO, and TIFF; flat BMP, JPEG, PCX, PNG, TGA, WebP, XPM, and XWD; raw DNG, CR2, NEF, ARW and other camera files; SVG; and OBJ 3D files. Developed by Chronos and written in Lazarus with Free Pascal, it provides drawing tools, vector shapes, Phong shading, curve adjustments, filters, texture rendering, and Python scripting.

Selections support antialiasing and can be turned into masks for targeted edits, while the color, layer stack, and toolbox windows keep essential controls visible. Images can be resampled or flipped horizontally and vertically, and Smart Zoom x3 enlarges artwork while detecting borders for viewing old-game sprites. Color controls include colorizing while preserving intensity, cycling hues and saturation, changing intensity or lightness, normalizing color and alpha channels, gamma-corrected or linear negatives, and gamma-corrected grayscale. Filters work on the full image or active selection and include radial, motion, custom-mask, sharpen, smooth, median, contour, emboss, sphere, cylinder, and cloud effects; supplied layer-effect scripts can be run or replaced with your own Python scripts.

It suits illustrators, sprite artists, photographers, and designers who need layered drawing, selection-based retouching, format conversion, or quick compositing, and it can also be called from a console. LazPaint 7.3.0 is open-source Photo & Graphics software for Linux, requires Linux with snapd, runs on x86_64 (amd64) systems, and uses the Qt5 widgetset.
