Open a TXT, Markdown, EPUB, or PDF file in Lector to turn it into a paged reading view, or paste text directly into the app. You can also select an entire folder, create a library from its contents, or share text to Lector from another application. The library remembers its books and returns each document to the point where you last stopped.

A page view and position slider let you move through a complete book, while text-to-speech can read the current document aloud. During playback, Lector highlights the sentence being spoken and uses the Android device’s available TTS voices. Listening controls include adjustable speed, a sleep timer, and operation while Lector is in the background.

The app is intended for private, local reading and listening: it has no ads, accounts, trackers, network access, or permissions, and keeps text on the device. It is free to use, open-source, and licensed under GPLv3.

Version 0.6.3 requires Android 8.0 or later and supports arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, and x86 devices. This release fixes a crash when Voice opened on devices with multiple system TTS voices sharing a short name, such as several Chinese voices labeled “zh,” and now assigns unique voice IDs for each language or locale.
