linuxptp4.4+snap

linuxptp gives Linux systems access to Precision Time Protocol (PTP) timing based on the linuxptp implementation. It follows the IEEE 1588 and IEEE 802.1AS standards, supporting deployments that depend on standardized network time synchronization. Published by Canonical IoT Labs, it is delivered through Linux’s snap format rather than as one monolithic command. Using separate interfaces lets an operator choose the specific timing utility needed for a task.

The snap exposes linuxptp.ptp4l, linuxptp.phc2sys, linuxptp.phc-ctl, and linuxptp.hwstamp-ctl, along with linuxptp.pmc, linuxptp.timemaster, linuxptp.ts2phc, linuxptp.tz2alt, and linuxptp.nsm. Each command represents a distinct part of the toolset, so the package groups related timing capabilities while keeping their command interfaces separate. It is intended for engineers and system operators who need PTP-based timing functions and associated linuxptp utilities in Linux and IoT environments.

The current release is 4.4+snap and runs on x86_64, also known as amd64. Using it requires Linux together with snapd, and its open-source distribution is provided under the linuxptp project’s open-source terms. The snap-based delivery exposes the commands individually, which is important for users integrating selected utilities into existing timing workflows.
