Mako replaces the usual Android home screen with a focused launcher that presents apps clearly and keeps interaction intentional. This open-source Android System Tools utility is written entirely in native Kotlin, runs on-device, and avoids tracking. It groups apps and profiles for quicker access while keeping distractions to a minimum.

Users can pin groups, include hidden groups in searches, show app shortcuts, select multiple items, and recover orphaned groups; group management is adjusted for smaller screens and offers clearer deletion dialogs. The interface supports custom app text sizing, row spacing, fonts, colors, backgrounds, wallpapers, transparent navigation bars, navigation-bar opacity, date formats, and an always-visible search bar. Mako can generate monochrome icons from fill icons when an app supplies no icon, show app-size and API indicators, open an app’s settings from its icon, and protect settings with a PIN. Its Zero apps catalogue contains Java-based apps divided into two variants.

Version 2026.57 adds Mono Dark, Mono Light, Catppuccin Latte, Catppuccin Mocha, Mélange Dark, and Tokyo Night themes, plus wallpaper integration, profile-indicator visibility, screen-rotation prevention, date-tap actions, double-tap screen sleep, and several ways to grant administrator access for turning the screen off. It also adds data export and import, a default replacement group when deleting one, improved search reset behavior, a menu bar replacing context menus, and fixes for older API versions tested on 21, 23, 30, and 37, along with gesture, rendering, accessibility, dialog, and settings-state corrections. German and Turkish translations, separate build flavors, and expanded API support through Android 17/API 37 are included. Mako requires Android 5.0 or later and uses Universal architecture.
