About
Render scenes with predictive, physically realistic light behavior and inspect the resulting spectral data with Malia Rendering Framework. MRF is an open-source library accompanied by several applications, designed for GPU-accelerated spectral rendering when increasing the number of spectral channels would otherwise make rendering time-consuming. It targets students, researchers, and experimenters investigating complex light-material interactions, while helping them prototype and develop new rendering ideas.
Malia Renderer provides a path tracer in both spectral and RGB editions, using an NVIDIA OptiX backend and supporting interactive progressive rendering. The Blender Bridge exports scenes directly from Blender for rendering, allowing fast scene definition and convenient camera setup. Spectral Viewer displays Malia’s high-dynamic-range spectral images and opens .spd spectrum-distribution files alongside RGB images in both high and low dynamic range.
RGB2SPEC converts RGB assets into spectral representations for either emittance or reflectance spectra. Dedicated Python scripts can substitute custom light-source and material models for existing assets when more intricate spectral dependencies are required. Together, these components distinguish MRF through its combination of spectral capabilities, GPU-oriented rendering, and tools for moving between common 3D assets and physically based spectral workflows.
Published by Malia, Malia Rendering Framework is Photo & Graphics software for Linux, at version 1.0.0, and runs on x86_64 (amd64) systems with Linux and snapd. Its open-source license supports use in exploratory rendering, research, and experimental graphics development.
Requires Linux + snapd · Architecture: x86_64 (amd64)
