Monophony2.11.0

Monophony streams music from YouTube in a dedicated listening application, letting users play that material without relying on a web browser. Its purpose is deliberately narrow: music listening, rather than the broader playback duties of a general-purpose media application. The browser-free workflow separates music playback from ordinary web browsing, which suits listeners who want a distinct audio session on a Linux desktop.

It is intended for people who use YouTube as a music source but prefer a focused program over a browser tab. That makes it practical for background listening while working, studying, or keeping music separate from other browser activity. Monophony’s limited scope is also its defining characteristic, since it concentrates on listening instead of attempting to cover every kind of media playback.

Soumyadeep Ghosh publishes Monophony as open-source software for Linux. The current release, version 2.11.0, requires Linux together with snapd and targets x86_64 hardware, also known as amd64. Users choosing it should therefore expect a Linux desktop music listener built specifically around YouTube streaming.
