About

Enter one secret and an alias into Password Calculator to generate a strong password for that specific alias. The program derives separate passwords for different aliases from the same single secret, giving each account or service its own credential. This removes the burden of remembering dozens of unrelated passwords and provides an alternative to using a password manager.

A typical session involves choosing an alias for an account, supplying the secret, and using the resulting password for that account. Repeating the calculation with another alias produces the corresponding password for a different service while retaining the same underlying secret. Password Calculator is based on a GNOME Shell extension and uses the same algorithm, making it useful to people who already work with that extension’s password-generation method.

The current release is version 1.1 and runs on Linux. It is open-source software suited to Linux users who want a compact way to derive account-specific passwords from one memorable secret.
