pebble is an open-source system tool for Linux that modifies service configuration by adding or removing layers. Pebble keeps the layers in the directory specified by the PEBBLE environment variable, using $PEBBLE/layers as the layer location. When pebble is installed as a snap, PEBBLE defaults to $HOME/snap/pebble/.

pebble also supports remote management of services. In this mode, it operates as a client while communicating with pebble on another Linux system. This allows service administration and service control to involve more than one system. The tool is therefore suited to configuration work where the service being managed is not necessarily on the same Linux installation as the administrative client.
