Phone by Google lets users place and receive calls with family, friends, and businesses from an Android phone. It combines caller identification, spam controls, voicemail, favorite contacts, and a dark mode in a simple, lightweight interface. Suspicious-call warnings help users recognize unwanted contacts, while number blocking prevents known nuisance callers from reaching them.

Caller ID can identify businesses before a call is answered, and Call Screen can respond to unfamiliar callers, filter detected spammers, and provide context about unknown calls. Hold for Me lets Google Assistant stay on the line during a business hold and alert the user when an employee returns. Visual voicemail lets users choose which messages to play, read transcriptions, and save or delete messages from the app. Call recording preserves conversations on the phone for later reference, with an announcement that recording has started heard by everyone on the call.

During an emergency call, the app can display the caller’s current location and share the required assistance details and location with the emergency operator without spoken input. Phone by Google runs on most Android devices using Android 9.0 or later and is also available for Wear OS, although some functions are limited to devices with Phone pre-installed and manual Call Screen is unavailable in some languages. In version 210.0.874276548, Call Screen on Pixel devices in the United States uses Google Assistant to screen unknown callers automatically and block detected robocalls before the phone rings; other unknown calls ring moments later with context about the caller and reason.
