About
Write, organize, and revisit Markdown notes on an Android device with Pocket Prose, using tags to file a folder of prose, lyrics, or other personal writing. It can open a directory of .md files or help you build a notebook from scratch, then list, read, edit, and search those files in place. The system file picker selects the folder, and the app uses no storage permission of its own; the files remain the database, so uninstalling leaves the folder byte-identical except for edits you made.
Pocket Prose builds a tag tree from slash-separated path segments and reads tags from frontmatter, treating text such as F# in lyrics or #hashtag in a note body as ordinary writing. Titles come from frontmatter rather than filenames, allowing duplicate titles to remain separate, while notes carrying the pin tag stay at the top regardless of sorting. Relative images and attachments resolve against each note’s folder, so embedded images render and linked PDFs open in an external viewer; lines beginning with + can be dimmed while writing or hidden in the reading view.
The app avoids renaming files, adding IDs or app-owned frontmatter keys, importing notes into an internal database, or imposing subfolders, filenames, or index files. It does not delete notes when files disappear or merge edits made elsewhere; conflicts are surfaced for you to handle, and a synced folder can provide that external change. A one-time offer can move body-held titles and tags into frontmatter, while ZIP export can write them back.
Pocket Prose suits writers maintaining a long-lived archive of roughly 200 notes, with no cloud account, telemetry, or network permission. Version 0.2.2 runs on Android 8.0 or later for arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, and x86 devices, and is open-source. Empty folders now show the library and new-note button, and the editor’s “Show Markdown” action is now labeled “Markdown source” to clarify that it displays the written form.

What's new in v0.2.2
An empty folder is no longer a dead end: it shows the library with the new-note button, so the first note can be written where every later one is.
The editor menu item that shows a note as written is now called "Markdown source" — "Show Markdown" read as if it meant the formatted view.
