Ripple: respond when panicking sends a trigger message to other Android apps when the user activates its panic button. Any app acting as a panic responder can receive that message and react by locking or disguising itself, deleting private data, sending an emergency message, or taking another protective action. It is intended for situations where the user has time to react but must avoid setting off the response by mistake.

For example, an organization expecting a raid can use Ripple to trigger the wiping of sensitive apps after receiving a minute or two of warning. An aid worker waiting at a border can activate the wipe response after seeing devices being seized, then restore the protected data later by syncing the device with a secure central database. These workflows suit people who carry sensitive information and need a deliberate way to protect it under pressure.

Ripple is a beta release, with current responder support for ChatSecure, Orweb, Umbrella, and Zom. Planned integrations include Courier, PanicButton, OpenKeychain, Orfox, SMSSecure, and StoryMaker, as support continues to expand. Version 0.3.2 runs on Android with Universal architecture and belongs to the System Tools category.

The software comes from Guardian Project, originated through the T2 Panic work, and is released as open-source software. Contributors can help translate the app and its metadata through the project’s Weblate translation efforts, or contribute to its source code.
