About

ROSbot is an open-source Linux utility distributed as a snap for operating ROSbot platforms. It packages the controller, robot state publisher, and other components based on the rosbot_ros ROS 2 driver. The supported models are ROSbot XL, ROSbot 3, ROSbot 3 PRO, ROSbot 2R, and ROSbot 2 PRO.

After installation on the robot’s single-board computer, a post-install command adds the required interfaces. The robot model is selected through a snap setting before the driver is started. Commands are provided to start or stop the driver, flash STM32F4 firmware, and activate or deactivate a fitted arm.

ROSbot includes terminal teleoperation and can accept input from a Logitech F710 controller in X mode. Manual driving publishes to manual/cmd_vel and takes priority over navigation while the operator is controlling the robot. Navigation commands can start or stop autonomous navigation using Nav2 and SLAM, send the robot to a pose in the map frame, and report missing startup requirements; navigation requires the separate husarion-rplidar snap.

The driver namespace provides settings for the robot model, configuration, drive type, firmware serial port, and current animation. MirrorNest distributes the official build directly from its own storage after scanning it for malware before publication. As a Linux utility in the open-source category, ROSbot is suited to ROSbot owners and operators who need the robot driver and its control commands in a packaged snap.
