Write local ISO or IMG images to an attached USB mass-storage device, or stream an image from a direct URL, with Rufid turning an Android phone into boot-media writer. This open-source Android System Tools utility writes to external USB storage rather than internal Android storage, running on Android 7.0+ for arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86_64, and x86. Its phone-first workflow lets you choose a USB device, inspect it, select an ISO, IMG, URL, or FreeDOS source, review an operation plan, write the media, and verify the result.

Rufid reads boot records, runs read benchmarks, backs up a USB device to an Android document, and extracts ZIP archives. Recovery converts used boot media into a normal FAT32 or exFAT drive through a metadata quick-wipe. Direct URL mode provides access to official source pages for Windows, Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, Linux Mint, Arch Linux, and openSUSE, while those operating-system images remain unbundled.

For Windows installation ISOs, it creates FAT32 UEFI media and splits install.wim beyond 4 GiB with source-built wimlib, or creates an NTFS data volume with an MBR or GPT UEFI:NTFS helper layout. Version 0.2.1 adds ISO9660/UDF extraction, path validation, progress, cancellation, partial-failure cleanup, source-built NTFS-3G and UEFI:NTFS layouts, stronger USB BOT reset, halt clearing, CSW-residue checks, and ambiguous-write handling; it also pins 7-Zip-JBinding to the release Gradle toolchain. QEMU/OVMF virtual boot validation is complete, while physical USB controllers and PC firmware remain separate compatibility considerations.

Destructive writing and recovery present an explicit plan and confirmation showing the selected device, its size, and available hardware identifiers. Rufid has no ad, analytics, billing, Firebase, cloud-account, or remote crash-reporting SDKs; errors stay local, and its F-Droid build uses auditable inputs such as source-built FreeDOS and pinned UEFI:NTFS, wimlib, NTFS-3G, and 7-Zip-JBinding sources.
