Look up an English or Esperanto word and Senreta Vortaro returns matching dictionary entries from its local data. This simple offline English–Esperanto dictionary is inspired by the Tuja Vortaro web page and is designed to be approachable for beginners. It suits language learners, translators, and writers who need quick vocabulary checks while reading or composing text.

The dictionary combines ESPDIC’s Esperanto–English translations with etymology and transitivity information derived from Tuja Vortaro materials. It also draws on ReVo, a large multilingual Esperanto dictionary, and Komputeko, a library of computer terminology. On first launch, the app copies its dictionary database into the data folder; that SQLite database currently contains the ESPDIC, etymology, and transitivity data. Both English and Esperanto words are indexed, and searches run on a background thread so the interface can remain responsive.

Results appear in a RecyclerView, with the current search behavior limited to exact matches for English and Esperanto words. Inexact matching is intended for a future addition, with those results planned to appear after exact matches. Written in Kotlin for Android, Senreta Vortaro is an open-source Reading & Writing app at version 0.5. It supports Android 4.2 and later and uses a universal architecture.
