About
trifa-desktop lets Linux users exchange instant messages with friends and family over the Tox network, keeping conversations away from third-party listeners. It addresses the privacy risks of digital communication in an environment where corporations and governments can conduct extensive surveillance. Messages and other activity are encrypted through open-source libraries, so conversations are visible only to the people involved.
Tox uses a distributed network rather than central servers, with participating users forming the network itself. This avoids relying on servers that could be raided, shut down, or compelled to surrender data, and reduces exposure to server outages. The service contains no advertising, making it suitable for private everyday conversations as well as communication among people who want an alternative to centrally operated messaging services.
The program is aimed at individuals, families, and organizations that need direct text communication without centralized message infrastructure. Its open-source design permits users to use, modify, and share the software, reflecting its community-developed character. trifa-desktop is open-source software for Linux and connects users through Tox rather than requiring a separately described central messaging service.
Requires Linux + snapd · Architecture: x86_64 (amd64)
