About
ubuntu-desktop-bootstrap provisions Ubuntu Desktop through a graphical installer interface, guiding the user through the deployment of the operating system. Canonical built it as a modern replacement for the traditional Ubuntu Desktop installer, combining a Flutter-based interface with Subiquity as its backend. The open-source System Tools application runs on Linux with snapd on x86_64 (amd64) hardware, and its current version is 0+git.c03fe36df.
Organizations and integrators can tailor the interface through a YAML configuration file at /usr/share/desktop-provision/whitelabel.yaml. Installation progress slides are added under /usr/share/desktop-provision/slides, where numbered directories set their order and contain localized HTML and image files. Locale selection uses a two-letter language code plus a two-letter country code, such as en_US or pt_BR, with slide_en_US.html serving as the fallback when a matching localized file is unavailable. The slide renderer supports only a limited subset of HTML, so the supplied slide templates are the practical starting point for custom content.
Localized EULA documents use the same language-code convention in /usr/share/desktop-provision/eula/, with names such as EULA_en_US.pdf and EULA.pdf as the default fallback. These customization features make the software suitable for Ubuntu Desktop deployments that need branded screens, regional language content, or tailored legal documents. Developers contributing through GitHub use an account there, while UI bugs and feature requests follow the interface project's templates and backend issues are directed to Subiquity. Its development workflow can automatically update source commits and open pull requests for main or ubuntu/* branches when the appropriate labels are applied.
Requires Linux + snapd · Architecture: x86_64 (amd64)
