About

It lets Ubuntu Core devices apply firmware updates through fwupd, including updates delivered in the UEFI Capsule format. Packaged as a snap, uefi-fw-tools supplies the firmware-update tooling and runs fwupd as a daemon so session software can communicate with device firmware. Administrators can manage updates through a graphical software manager such as GNOME Software, the fwupd command-line utility, or the system D-Bus interface.

The included fwupd support currently handles UEFI Capsule updates and firmware updates for ColorHug devices. Its format coverage may expand in future versions, making it useful for embedded systems that need firmware maintenance through standard Ubuntu Core services. The package is intended for Ubuntu Core deployments rather than general desktop installations; desktop users should use the fwupd snap instead.

uefi-fw-tools runs on Linux with snapd and is provided for amd64 systems. Canonical publishes the freeware package for device makers, integrators, and administrators maintaining Ubuntu Core hardware in the field or during system provisioning.

Version 1.5.4-0.7.2+git uses separate 18 and 20 tracks for Ubuntu Core 18 and Ubuntu Core 20, while the former 1.4 track is no longer used. This track arrangement distinguishes the supported Ubuntu Core generations without changing the firmware interfaces exposed by fwupd.

Requires Linux + snapd · Architecture: amd64
