xmrig lets users mine cryptocurrency with their computer’s CPU or GPU and run RandomX performance benchmarks from a terminal. It is a high-performance, cross-platform miner that unifies CPU and GPU work across RandomX, KawPow, CryptoNight, AstroBWT, and GhostRider. James Tigert publishes version 6.19.0 as open-source software for Linux.

Mining is controlled through command-line options that specify a pool endpoint, port, and wallet address, such as xmrig -o example.pool.com:4444 -u [wallet address]. CPU mining is built in, while AMD GPUs can use OpenCL and NVIDIA GPUs can use CUDA through an external plugin.

The preferred configuration method is a JSON file because it exposes more flexibility than the command line, including mining profiles that the CLI does not cover. The Linux build requires snapd and an x86_64 (amd64) system. Its configuration can be stored at /home/$USER/snap/xmrig/common/config.json, or selected directly with an option such as --config=FILE; editing that file or calling the API can change important settings without restarting the miner.

The Configuration Wizard helps prepare initial settings, and Workers manages miners through an HTTP API. Official binaries are also provided for Windows, macOS, and FreeBSD, while the Linux edition is the relevant target here.
