About
Ambient generates gently evolving soundscapes that provide a steady audio backdrop for focus, reading, work, or rest. Its scenes draw on environments such as rain, wind, waves, and fire, with sound produced procedurally instead of played from downloaded recordings. Users can explore 50 scenes, each building its own changing combination of environmental sounds. Visuals depicting water and particles can respond to the generated audio, while the application presents no advertisements.
Published by Shuhei Hayami as a commercial Music & Audio application for Linux, Ambient is at version 1.1.0. Playback is available for up to 60 minutes without authentication. Unlimited listening can be activated by scanning the computer’s device-authentication QR code with a purchased Ambient app on iOS or Android and approving the request.
A single purchase can authenticate as many as three Windows or Linux computers, and device authentication requires an internet connection. Ambient requires Linux with snapd on an x86-64 computer, plus a Vulkan-capable graphics driver, X11 or XWayland, and PulseAudio or PipeWire providing a PulseAudio-compatible service.
Requires Linux + snapd
