ApE (A Plasmid Editor)3.1.10.1

ApE lets researchers edit plasmid sequences while analyzing and annotating their DNA features in one workspace. It provides a computer-based environment for examining plasmid information, revising sequence content, and associating useful annotations with regions of DNA. Its circular graphic map support helps users visualize plasmid organization, including maps styled with demonstration theme files.

The software suits students, educators, and laboratory researchers who need to study or maintain plasmid records during academic or other DNA sequence work. A User Manual accompanies the program, giving users guidance for its editing, analysis, and annotation functions. ApE (A Plasmid Editor) is freeware in the Education category and runs on MacOS with both Intel and Apple Silicon architecture support.

The current version is 3.1.10.1. Recent updates add new Default Features and Fluorescent Proteins Features libraries, giving annotation work more ready-made feature choices. New installations open in inline feature mode, which displays the bottom strand and annotated features at the bottom of the sequence window. Users handling large sequences or preferring a more compact display can switch off inline mode in Preferences, also labeled Settings. The combination of sequence editing, DNA analysis, annotation libraries, and plasmid visualization distinguishes ApE from a basic text editor for biological sequences.
