Dictionaries3.0

Select a word in a Mac app and Dictionaries shows its translation with a three-finger tap, avoiding the need to open a separate dictionary or search for each unfamiliar term. It translates to and from English across more than 80 languages using large Wiktionary-based dictionaries enriched with pronunciation and related data. Bidirectional translation, spellchecking, and pronunciation audio are available directly within the macOS text-processing features that supported applications provide.

Look Up can find selectable words in most text editors, web browsers, and even Spotlight, while the same translation functions are available through Apple’s built-in Dictionary app. Pronunciation recordings cover most entries and can play directly from Look Up. If macOS does not already include a spellchecking dictionary for a language, Dictionaries can install one, and it also includes Emojipedia explanations for emoji.

The app suits students, multilingual writers, language learners, and anyone who regularly reads or writes in another language. Its installed dictionaries update automatically whenever Dictionaries is opened from time to time, keeping entries and language data current without relying on a printed reference work.

Dictionaries 3.0 is freeware for macOS and runs on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, with a time-unlimited trial available.
