Aphera develops RAW photographs on Mac, giving photographers a focused workspace for turning camera files into finished images. Its imaging pipeline was built from scratch, combines modern color science with film-informed design, and provides instant feedback while editing even 100MP RAW files. Handcrafted Looks provide analog-style character, while the Looks library lets users apply presets or create a personal style.

RAW controls include denoising and highlight recovery, and lens profiles for hundreds of cameras correct distortion and vignetting. Image Formation can use Aphera’s 2499 or your own LUTs, including Fujifilm GFX Eterna Film Simulation LUTs and cinema LUTs from ARRI, RED, and Sony; grain, halation, and diffusion add cinema-style effects. Keyboard commands, fast browsing through thousands of RAWs, quick startup, and bulk editing help photographers work through an entire shoot without relying on the mouse.

Each project keeps a shoot self-contained and portable, with star ratings, rejection flags, custom groups, and copy-and-paste adjustments for culling and consistent edits. Export presets support Archival, Web, Social, or custom configurations, naming tokens organize projects and exports, and non-destructive editing preserves the originals while output can be saved as JPEG, PNG, TIFF, or 8-, 10-, or 16-bit HEIF.

Version 1.8.0 imports 100 100MP RAW files in about a minute on an M2 Max, a 25% improvement over the previous release. Aphera is freeware for macOS 15 Sequoia or later and supports Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, with its native performance work centered on Apple Silicon.
