Fontlab8.4.2.8950

Fontlab lets you draw, edit, space, and export typefaces, turning letterform sketches into usable font files. Its Bézier outline editor provides node and handle controls, while metric and kerning tools help refine the distance within and between glyphs. Text previews and proofing views let designers inspect individual characters, words, paragraphs, and complete families as they work.

The editor supports OpenType layout features, alternate glyphs, substitutions, and variable-font axes for families that change across controlled design dimensions. It handles common font-production formats such as OpenType, TrueType, UFO, and FontLab’s native project files, making it useful for both new designs and revisions to existing fonts. Python scripting and batch processing can automate repetitive production tasks, including applying changes across many glyphs or font masters.

Type designers and independent foundries use Fontlab to build complete families, while branding studios and lettering professionals use it to turn custom lettering into installable fonts. It suits projects ranging from a single display face to multilingual text families that require careful spacing, kerning, and OpenType behavior. Fontlab 8.4.2.8950 is freeware in the Photo & Graphics category for MacOS. The release supports both Intel and Apple Silicon architectures.
