BirdFont6.15.1

Create and edit typefaces by working directly with glyph outlines in BirdFont, a font editor for Mac users who need to build or refine their own fonts. The editor supports variable glyph properties, variable glyphs made from strokes, layers, control points, anchors, kerning, ligatures, and emoji-oriented font work. It also provides drawing, resize, merge, navigation, and background-image tools, along with Unicode-block browsing and selection in the overview.

Recent development highlights include a dark canvas theme, a color-wheel selector, faster spacing classes, improved ligature generation, better emoji support, updated SVG parsing, and visual indicators for added glyphs. Other updates improve anchor relationships, curve orientation, stroke completion, font merging, batch transformations, and quick glyph switching from the kerning view. These additions make the program relevant to type designers and illustrators creating custom fonts, including projects involving variable or multilingual glyph sets.

BirdFont 6.15.1 is built for macOS on Apple Silicon (arm64) and is distributed as freeware. Johan Mattsson develops the editor in Vala, with roughly 124,000 lines of code behind it. People who want to contribute can use an optional small monthly subscription, while bug reports and help are handled through email, Mastodon, Twitter, Facebook, and GitHub.
