Color Oracle1.3

Color Oracle casts a full-screen color filter over the display so you can inspect a design as someone with color-vision deficiencies might see it. Because the effect covers the entire screen, it works with layouts, illustrations, presentations, and interfaces viewed in other applications rather than only with an imported image. Its simulation choices represent common red-green and blue-yellow deficiencies, along with a grayscale view, allowing problems with contrast or color-only distinctions to become visible.

Designers, developers, educators, and testers can use it while reviewing web pages, graphics, maps, charts, or software interfaces before sharing them with others. Switching between the simulations provides a quick visual check for labels or controls that depend too heavily on hue to communicate meaning. This makes Color Oracle especially useful during accessibility reviews and iterative design work.

Version 1.3 is freeware for Intel and Apple Silicon systems, and Catalina users should consult the manual for a known common issue affecting macOS 10.15. The project was created by Bernie Jenny of Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, with ideas, testing, and icon work credited to Nathaniel Vaughn Kelso in California. Color Oracle remains a work in progress that is intended to improve through user feedback.
