CrystalViewer lets users browse, open, and manipulate three-dimensional crystal and molecular structures in an interactive visual workspace. Its photo-album-style interface uses Retina graphics and animated thumbnails to make a curated collection easy to scan. Each structure can be rotated in real time, scaled, measured, and examined interactively, including detailed polyhedral models whose building blocks can be selected from thumbnails.

The Materials Library contains about 1,400 annotated structures with references and metadata, organized into Hybrid Materials, Inorganics, and Organics. A separate Minerals Library includes about 600 specimens, from rock-forming minerals, gemstones, and ores to high-pressure phases and extraterrestrial minerals, and is also part of the Inorganics collection. The browser’s sidebar follows a folder structure, while the Go menu and Search command help users locate particular entries; the software also provides search indexing for its library.

CrystalViewer suits classroom teaching, independent study, and anyone exploring chemical, mineralogical, or materials structures without reducing them to static images. Clicking through the collection lets learners connect complex forms with their underlying structural units and compare related examples.

Version 11.4.4 is freeware in the Education category for macOS, running natively on Intel and Apple Silicon hardware. The developer describes the product as software for both Mac and Windows, while this release targets macOS.
