About

Send photos, files, or text directly between your own devices over the same Wi-Fi network with Daak. Transfers remain on the local network, so data does not pass through the internet or a server, and no account is required. It suits people moving work documents between a phone and computer, sharing photos nearby, or passing text between devices they control.

Pair two devices once by scanning a QR code, then confirm that both screens display the same number. After pairing, select an item to send it to the other device. End-to-end encryption protects communication between paired devices. Files of any size are transferred in 1 MiB chunks, keeping memory use low, and the app handles text and photos alongside ordinary files.

Daak also works with its macOS and iOS counterparts, making it practical across a person’s different devices. Daak is open-source software in the Developer Tools category, requiring Android 8.0 or later on arm64-v8a architecture. Camera access is used for QR-code pairing, while local-network and Wi-Fi multicast access helps find paired devices. Notifications report transfer results, and Daak receives files only while the app is running.

Version 0.1.4 makes the build reproducible, so the APK from F-Droid matches the one from GitHub, and the APK no longer contains the build machine’s IP address.

What's new in v0.1.4

The build is now reproducible: F-Droid and GitHub give the same APK. The APK no longer holds the IP address of the build machine. No other change.
