PaperTerm lets users open SSH sessions to remote machines from e-paper devices, keeping terminal work readable despite slow redraws and screen ghosting. Designed for e-paper hardware including the Onyx Boox range, it combines the Termux terminal engine with a pure-Java SSH client, but does not provide a local shell or local code execution. Its dark-on-white ANSI palette keeps programs such as nvim, less, and top legible, while avoiding forced application refreshes so the display manages redraws without unnecessary keyboard flashing.

Volume keys and on-screen triangles turn pages, while Auto, Page-keys, and Wheel modes adapt paging for editors and terminal multiplexers. The customizable extra-keys row accepts comma-separated keys, semicolon-separated rows, and KEY=label entries for labels or icons; other text is entered literally, allowing symbols and words on keys. SSH connections support passwords, key authentication, a shared key store, known_hosts verification, keepalive messages, and reconnection after unexpected disconnects.

Clipboard handling includes OSC 52, and per-host environment settings can make remote shells use light themes. Korean and CJK input sends composed syllables when finalized, sends Latin text immediately, and can show Jamo during composition.

PaperTerm includes four monospace fonts, starts with CJK-capable typography, accepts imported fonts, and supports pinch-to-zoom sizing. It runs on Android 7.0 and later as a Universal build, is GPLv3 open-source software, and belongs to Developer Tools. Version 0.1.2 replaces the XML-only icon with raster images at every density, correcting placeholder rendering in contexts that cannot rasterize extracted vector artwork while leaving the artwork unchanged.
