Doughnut lets listeners subscribe to podcasts, organize episodes, and play them through a podcast client centered on a practical three-column workspace. Its layout keeps shows, episode lists, and playback-oriented library browsing visible together, making it suited to regular listening as well as maintaining a personal archive.

An iTunes-style library can be stored on an internal drive or a network-shared drive, giving users a choice of local or shared media storage. Episodes can be marked as favorites for quick access to preferred installments. Doughnut also lets listeners create podcast entries without a feed, which is useful for collecting miscellaneous releases from discontinued podcasts.

The client is aimed at people who follow multiple shows, preserve episodes, or need to manage podcast material that no longer has an active feed. Its interface and user experience take inspiration from Instacast for Mac, the discontinued podcast application from 2015. After an earlier Electron implementation that used more than 200 MB even when minimized, Doughnut was rebuilt as a 100% native macOS application written in Swift.

Version 2.0.1 is freeware in the Music & Audio category and supports both Intel and Apple Silicon. Xcode 12.2 or later is supported for development, while the latest stable Xcode release is recommended but not required.
