Echo continuously records audio so you can retrieve a moment after it happened, functioning as a time-shifted recorder rather than a collection of manually started clips. It keeps recent audio in a rolling buffer, and older recordings are deleted automatically unless you save them. You can preserve phone numbers, passwords, instructions, amusing moments, or conversations that may help establish what someone did or did not say.

The main view is provided by SaidItFragment, while SaidItService records audio on a high-priority thread and processes tasks through Android’s Handler system. AudioMemory holds audio chunks in an in-memory ring buffer and is not thread-safe. Battery-saving techniques are included, but continuous recording can consume about as much battery as constant audio playback.

Echo suits people who need a record of unexpected harassment or bullying, want to recover information they did not think to write down, or wish to keep spontaneous sounds and conversations. It is open-source software in the Video & Media Players category for Android 11 or later, with universal architecture.
